Tom Ryan is the head coach at Saint Xavier University, returning to his alma mater after playing for the Cougars in 2012. In his first seven seasons as head coach, Ryan guided the Cougars to a 157-47 record (.770).
In that time, SXU won six CCAC Tournament Championships, along with five CCAC Regular Season Titles, and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 & 2025.
He guided Saint Xavier to a third-place finish in 2024 and a runner-up finish in the 2025 NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Championship, earning NAIA Men’s Volleyball Head Coach of the Year honors. The Cougars placed 11 NAIA All-Americans over this period.
Ryan received CCAC Coach of the Year honors in 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 & 2025.
Ryan came to Saint Xavier after coaching one season (2018) at the NCAA Division I level, working with Quincy University (Ill.) as a graduate assistant.
He also has served various coaching roles at Prairie State College (Ill.), Moraine Valley Community College (Ill.) and at UNO Volleyball Club prior to his time at Quincy.
