Invitation to The Game
Built by You.
Backed by Us.
A founder-led invitation to build and lead a volleyball training Hub in your community, with the systems, brand and people of The Volleyball Institute behind you.
This is not an idea. TVI already operates 5 Hubs, with 100+ Trainers and thousands of athletes trained. Our mission is bigger: to help hundreds of thousands of people per day through volleyball, in all fifty states. Now we’re looking for the next Leaders to build the next Hubs.
Volleyball is exploding. We’re looking for the people who will build its future.
Volleyball is one of the fastest-growing sports in America, and demand for real training is outpacing the number of places to get it. Early Leaders build the relationships and reputation that latecomers spend years trying to catch up to.
TVI exists to meet that demand everywhere, with one mission: to help people through volleyball, and to do it in all fifty states.
We grow by finding extraordinary people and giving them the systems, the brand, and the support to build and lead a TVI Hub right where they live. You own your Hub’s results and share in its profit.
If you finish this more excited than when you started, we want to hear from you.
You build it. You run it. Your results decide what it pays.
A career you build, not a job you take
This isn’t employment. It’s yours to build, and it’s personal.
From the Founder, in his own words.

Alex Hurlburt
Founder, The Volleyball Institute

On the USA Volleyball staff at the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.
“I was trying to leave volleyball.”
I didn’t set out to build a national volleyball organization. I was actively trying to leave the sport. I’d spent years in high school, club, college, and national-team spaces, and the hours, the politics, the limited autonomy, and the financial ceiling had worn me down.
A few families asked me for private lessons while I was in transition. At first it was simply income. But I quickly realized something: Private Training stripped away everything that had exhausted me and preserved the part I loved most: helping people. It gave me less drama, more control, better pay, and more time with my family.
Then demand outpaced my capacity. I brought in another Trainer. Then another. The model kept working: families came, athletes grew, and coaches earned meaningful money while controlling their time and doing work that mattered.
What started as a few private lessons became proof that volleyball coaching could be structured differently. That’s why I’m looking for the next person to build this: someone who could take real responsibility for building a local Hub.
“I built TVI because the traditional coaching model didn’t work for me. I knew I wasn’t the only one.”
Alex Hurlburt, Founder
The Rules of The Game defines exactly what you own, and what you don’t. We don’t do vague.
Volleyball is the vehicle. People are the point.
Sports should improve the lives of everyone who participates: athletes, coaches, and families. Too often youth sports value people for what they produce (wins, money, status) instead of who they’re becoming. TVI exists to change that.
For Athletes
A safe, club-neutral, school-neutral place to train and grow, without being used for someone else’s ego, wallet, or win total.
For Trainers
Control over schedule, pricing, and the kind of difference they want to make. Paid like the professionals they are.
For Leaders
A Hub to build and lead, with proven systems and a team that wants them to win. They own their Hub’s results and share in its profit.
The Mission
Hundreds of thousands of people per day.
In all fifty states. If that mission doesn’t move you, this probably isn’t your seat, and that’s okay.
We created a new class of Trainer. Now we’re creating a new class of Leader.
For decades, coaching volleyball meant choosing between doing what you love and earning a real living. We broke that trade-off.
You recruit Trainers, build relationships, and run your Hub.
Think about the gym you’d build, the Trainers you’d recruit, the athletes who’d grow up inside something you created.
A Hub Leader goes one step further than a Trainer. You recruit and support Trainers, build local relationships, and create the demand that lets athletes and families win too.
Your compensation is a share of the profit your Hub generates. You own your Hub’s results and share in its profit, and what that comes to depends on your ability, your work ethic and your local market. No pay scale.
“Uncapped also means unguaranteed. Hubs start small and compound. Rather than tell you that, The Rules of The Game shows you a real Hub’s real first year, every month, including the losing one. We’d rather show you the real numbers than sell you a fantasy.”
You won’t do it alone, and you won’t start from scratch. You’ll have TVI’s brand and systems behind you, structured access to the people who built this, and a cohort of Leaders starting under the same rules. The Rules of The Game spells out exactly what support you get, phase by phase, and exactly what you handle yourself. We put it in writing so you never have to wonder.
The coach-builder.
The best Hub Leaders share a specific profile: credibility in volleyball, real relationships in their community, and the ambition to build something larger than their own lessons. If that’s you, read on.
You don’t have to quit your life to find out. The standards measure results, not hours, and The Rules of The Game shows what building this alongside other work actually looks like.
This is for you if…
- Helping more people through volleyball, in every state, matters to you as much as the paycheck
- You want to build and lead something, not be handed a job
- You’re resourceful and figure things out without a manual
- You want your effort to directly determine your reward
- You care about people and know a healthy business makes greater impact possible
- You play the long game and want a career, not a side gig
This isn’t for you if…
- A mission to reach hundreds of thousands of people per day doesn’t move you
- You want a guaranteed paycheck for guaranteed hours
- You need someone to tell you exactly what to do each day
- You’d rather have a predictable, capped, comfortable role
- You want the upside without the responsibility
- You’re looking for quick, easy money
- You don’t have existing relationships in your market or community
Five values. Non-negotiable.
These aren’t who we’re trying to become. They’re how we already make decisions, including the decision of whether you’re the right person to join us.
People Are the Point
We exist to help people through volleyball, and we treat each other with respect, empathy, and humanity.
Energy, Joy & Pride
We bring energy and joy to the work of building something great. We compete fiercely, take pride in what we create, and build environments people want to show up for.
High Standards, Clear Ownership
We support people fully, while holding ourselves accountable for clearly defined responsibilities and results.
Truth Builds Trust
It’s safe to be honest here. We tell the truth early and respectfully, and value healthy conflict for better decisions.
We Play the Long Game
We optimize for long-term impact over short-term wins, and we build things meant to last.
An Honest Word
Building a Hub is hard, especially at the beginning.
Building a Hub demands more than coaching talent. It takes resourcefulness, discipline, and the willingness to do hard things before anyone is watching or paying. There’s no salary handed to you for showing up. The reward is real, but you earn it by building something real.
We know this asks a lot. That’s why we’re selective. And it’s why the right person won’t be building alone.
The Invitation
If this lit something up in you…
If the mission is one you want to help build, and you’re ready to build it yourself, this may be for you. The model works. Now we’re looking for the next Leaders to build it further.
The Rules of The Game covers
- How Hub Leaders are paid: the exact split, in writing
- A real Hub’s real first year, month by month
- Every standard you’d be held to, and every consequence, before you commit
- What TVI provides at each phase, and what you handle yourself
- What we will never promise you
“If this resonates, I want to hear from you.”
Alex
