Liberos & Defense Mini-Group

  • Everyone knows that defense wins championships, and there is no more important defensive player than the team’s libero.

Responsible for keeping the ball off the floor more than anyone else and initiating the offense, having the correct technical skills to pass and dig with one’s platform and hands is imperative to success at the libero position.

This group is also great for any other positions looking to improve their serve-receive and digging abilities!

Sessions are lead by our top coaches and are designed to optimize technical and tactical ability, all while increasing the athlete’s Volleyball IQ.

  • Defense Principles

    • Great diggers are able to move efficiently to the flight path of attacks

    • Great diggers are able to use a variety of ‘floor moves’ to extend their range and dig more balls

    • Great diggers are able to dig with both their platform and hands — as well as to the left and right of their bodies

    • Great diggers prioritize tips/rolls/positive block-touches over hard-driven balls

    • Great diggers use a reverse-dodgeball step to maximize surface area behind the ball and reduce ‘shankability’

    • Great diggers are also able to set up attackers with the 2nd contact if the setter is unavailable
